  • PBES Appoints Commercial Marine and Energy Professional to Develop Mediterranean Markets

    Norwegian energy storage company further strengthens business development resources

    Plan B Energy Storage (PBES) announced that Sven Thy Christensen has joined the firm to develop marine and power markets in the Mediterranean region. Mr. Christensen brings decades of experience of green solutions for ship efficiency, emissions reduction, and power generation including diesel and gas generation, wind and solar energy.

    Mr. Christensen comes from Odense Maritime Technology, where he held the position as Sales & Business Development Director. Prior to this he worked for MAN Diesel & Turbo in Spain. Here he spent four years as Managing Director Deputy, representing the company at Spanish shipyard group Astilleros Españoles, and then ten years as CEO for Spain for all group companies, simultaneously responsible for business development in Latin America.

    Sven is a mechanical engineer with a graduate diploma in business administration, both from University of Copenhagen. He holds the honorary title as Copenhagen Goodwill Ambassador, is a member of the Danish Association of Engineers (IDA), and of the Spanish Society of Naval Architects and Ocean Engineers (AINE).

    PBES today announced that Eivind Aune has joined the firm to develop energy storage markets. Mr. Aune brings decades of experience in Norwegian business.

    With an MSc in electronics/cybernetics and an MBA in international marketing and trade, Eivind has found success in several board and CEO positions. Eivind spent the 8 last years as an owner and CEO of Sifa Mechanical Production in Selbu, Norway.

  • PBES Appoints Power Generation Expert to Develop Energy Storage Markets

    PBES strengthens resources in key sectors

    Trondheim, Norway – July 11, 2017 – Plan B Energy Storage (PBES) today announced Arnstein Andreassen has joined the firm to develop marine energy storage markets. Mr. Andreassen brings decades of experience in power generation and propulsion.

    In his previous positions, both in Naval and commercial business, Arnstein worked with power generation and propulsion systems in the marine space, helping his clients to achieve best in value for their investment. Arnstein comes to PBES from Bertel O. Steen Teknikk AS (Bostek), where he is responsible for sales of commercial marine generator sets.

  • PBES Selected for new HH Ferries Contract

    PBES Lithium Energy Storage Selected for new HH Ferries Contract

    Norwegian/Canadian PBES awarded supply contract for worlds largest battery-­‐powered ferries

    Trondheim, Norway – October 4, 2016 – Plan B Energy Storage (PBES) today announced the energy storage supply contract for the two largest battery-­‐powered ferries in the world. Each of the two Scandlines Helsingborg-­‐Helsingör ferries will have 4.16 MWh batteries to provide power for primary propulsion.

    The fully electric ferries will carry their part of more than 7.4 million passengers and 1.9 million vehicles annually with zero emissions. INEA, the EU’s executive agency for innovation and network, supports the SEK 300 million project with SEK 120 million.

    The energy storage system, designed by PBES with a proprietary liquid cooling system that provides a higher level of safety to marine customers, is part of ABB´s modernization package, which also includes energy storage control system and Onboard DC Grid technology. The thermal management system constantly maintains optimal internal temperatures to maximize lifespan of the battery.

    Norwegian Maritime Authority Approves PBES Lithium Energy Storage

    Norwegian/Canadian PBES lithium-ion energy storage approved to meet new NMA standard

    rack-close-up_smallTrondheim, Norway – September 26, 2016 − Plan B Energy Storage (PBES) announced today the approval of PBES marine energy storage system for use in electric and hybrid vessels in Norway. Trondheim based PBES is the only lithium-ion battery manufacturer to use the proprietary CellCoolTM cooling and E-VentTM ventilation systems.

    The PBES energy storage system was tested at PBES’ Trondheim facility on June 17, 2016. The test attempted to force overcharge the batteries into a thermal runaway situation and was prevented by the PBES safety systems. The batteries passed all tests with no uncontrolled thermal event, no fire and no explosion.

    The Norwegian Maritime Authority accepts the propagation tests performed 17 June 2016. The propagation tests have successfully been performed in line with propagation test 1 in circular RSV 12t 2016.
